Under the motto "Light attracts people", Maremüritz Yachthafenresort & Spa in Waren an der Müritz celebrated the laying of the foundation stone in May 2016. More than 200 invited guests from politics and business experienced the festive ceremony, which was accompanied by an impressive light installation by the Düsseldorf artist Bernd Spiecker.
In accordance with the old tradition, the managing partners of 12.18., Kai Richter and Jörg Lindner, laid a copper cassette with "contemporary testimonies" in the foundation stone - among them the building plans, a current daily newspaper and several euro coins.
The high "light" of the evening was the unveiling of the light installation by the artist Bernd Spiecker: Punctually at 9:30 p.m. 24 illuminated park benches shone under Waren's night sky and bathed the waterfront promenade in colourful light. The Düsseldorf artist had already caused a worldwide sensation with his unusual art objects: As part of his campaign "Please have a seat - Please take a seat", his light benches have already made stops in London, Berlin, Jerusalem and Istanbul. "Waren on the Müritz with its long promenade and the reflective shimmer of the water have made this installation a very special project for me," said Bernd Spieker during his welcoming speech.
